The Stork Club, the famed New York nightspot immortalized by columnist Walter Winchell (in return for special favors from its owners), is the setting for this typically brash Betty Hutton musical. Hutton plays a young hat check girl who rescues an elderly tramp (Barry Fitzgerald) from drowning. The old bum turns out to be a millionaire, and expresses his gratitude by setting up Hutton in luxury--asking for nothing in return. Hutton's boyfriend Don DeFore suspects hanky panky, but all is forgiven during the obligatory floor show. There are rumors that the Stork Club itself financed The Stork Club as a feature-length commercial. Whatever the case, ownership of the film was cloudy enough to allow it to slip into the public domain in 1982, which explains why Stork Club seems to be running 24 hours a day on cable TV. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Clips here show very, very young girl singing and acting the Miss Hutton inspired rendition while performing in a festival with rehearsal takes mixed in. There are no words sufficient to express just how important and influential Betty Hutton and her works were on several generations of performers- after watching Betty Hutton movies countless young girls have fancied themselves as Blossom Seeley, Pearl White or superstar Annie Oakley while many others have enjoyed listening to and singing her songs thru the years. She was always fun to watch on the screen and gave so much joy with her performances. On March 11, 2007, she left this world but through the magic of film and recordings, she left her unique contribution to the entertainment industry and the gift of her talent will continue on for generations to come. Thank You Betty

Vincent Lopez (1895-1975) was an American bandleader and pianist. He was born of Portuguese immigrant parents in Brooklyn, New York and was leading his own dance band in New York City by 1917. In 1921 his band began broadcasting on the new medium of entertainment radio, which boosted the popularity of both himself and of radio. He became one of America's most popular bandleaders, and would retain that status through the 1940s. His theme song was "Nola," Felix Arndt's novelty ragtime piece of 1915, and Lopez became so identified with it that he occasionally satirized it: his 1939 movie short for Vitaphone, Vincent Lopez and his Orchestra, features the entire band singing "Down with Nola". Lopez worked occasionally in feature films, notably The Big Broadcast (1932). He was also one of the very first bandleaders to work in Soundies movie musicals, in 1940. He made additional Soundies in 1944. Noted musicians who played in his band included Artie Shaw, Xavier Cugat, Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy Dorsey, Mike Mosiello and Glenn Miller. He also featured singers Keller Sisters and Lynch, Betty Hutton and Marion Hutton. Lopez's longtime drummer was Mike Riley. Lopez's flamboyant style of piano playing influenced such later musicians Eddy Duchin and Liberace. In 1941 Lopez's Orchestra began a residency at the Taft Hotel in Manhattan that would last 20 years. In the early 1950s, Lopez hosted a radio program. In total, his career lasted well into the 70's and he led bands for no less than 57 years. Frank Munn was once called the Golden Voice of Radio, and was an outstanding, extensively recorded vocalist during the 20's and 30's. This brilliant record, crediting the band 'Vincent Lopez & His Casa Lopez Orchestra" named after Lopez's short-lived own nightclub (1925-1928), was made for Brunswick on July 13th, 1928. Vocal by Frank Munn and a vocal trio. Exact personnel is unknown, but prominent members included Arthur Schutt on piano, Xavier Cugat on violin, as well as Jimmy Dorsey on clar
