Mr. O'Neal and his late brother, Edward Vazon O'Neal Jr., began singing gospel at age 12. In 1969, the O'Neals were voted the "World's Greatest Gospel Duo'' by the National Association of Television and Radio Artists. Their duet "Jesus Dropped the Charges'' won them national acclaim in the movie "Say Amen, Somebody'' — a documentary on gospel music pioneer Willa Mae Ford Smith. In 2004, the duo were inducted into the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame alongside CeCe Winans, Donnie McClurkin and other gospel figures. The duo recorded nearly two dozen albums, including some for Leon Russell's record label. During the 1950s, the O'Neal brothers performed in churches around St. Louis. By 1960, they were performing outside the area. They performed nationally at Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden and the Kennedy Center, and locally at the Fox Theatre, American Theatre, Powell Symphony Hall, Kiel Auditorium and Westport Playhouse.
Rev. Roberts was a longtime producer for Savoy Records. It was his church choir -- the Angelic Choir of the First Baptist Church of Nutley, NJ -- that teamed with Rev. James Cleveland on the historic "Peace Be Still" recording session in September 1963. That album took Cleveland and the Angelic Choir to new levels of popularity in the gospel music industry and helped make Savoy the "go to" label for gospel choirs for the next three decades. Rev. Roberts also recorded with his wife and with the Gospel Chordettes, which changed its name when the Archie Bleyer Chordettes ("Mr. Sandman") took issue. Rev. Roberts said he changed the group's name to the Lawrence Roberts Singers "because I know nobody had THAT name!" Rev.
http://youtube.com/?v=3RiCPbQ44IQ

Clara Ward (April 21, 1924 - January 16, 1973)[1] was a gospel artist who achieved great success, both artistic and commercial, in the 1940s and 1950s as leader of The Famous Ward Singers. A gifted singer and arranger, Ward took the lead-switching style used by male gospel quartets to new heights, leaving room for spontaneous improvisation and vamping by each member of the group while giving virtuouso singers such as Marion Williams the opportunity to step forward in songs such as "Surely, God Is Able" (the first million-selling gospel hit), "How I Got Over" (which Clara wrote, one of the most famous songs in the Black gospel repertoire), and "Packin' Up". Clara Ward ranks among the greatest of gospel singers; only Mahalia Jackson is more exalted. Her beautiful alto (with a somewhat nasal tone) in gospel songs and the Methodist hymns of the eighteenth century continues to delight music lovers. She had a marked influence on later singers, such as her protegee Aretha Franklin, who adopted her moan for secular songs and who saluted Ward in Amazing Grace, the gospel album she made with James Cleveland in the early 1970s. Clara Ward died in 1973 at the age of 48. Aretha Franklin and Rev. C. L. Franklin sang at Clara Ward's funeral in Philadelphia in 1973; Marion Williams sang at Clara's second memorial service held days later in Los Angeles, California.
Here are the very first wedding pictures of former 7th Heaven star Beverley Mitchell and accountant Michael Cameron in Ravello, Italy from earlier today (October 1). The 27-year-old actress wore a strapless Melissa Sweet “Michaela” draped fit-and-flare satin gown with gold-trimmed, hand-placed lace embroidery. “She was the sweetest girl to work with,” said a wedding assistant who worked with Beverly on her gowns. “And we all think she, as well as the bridal party, look amazing in their gowns!” Beverly, who grew up in Arcadia, Calif., played middle-child Lucy Camden on 7th Heaven. Her former onscreen sisters Jessica Biel (Mary) and Mackenzie Rosman (Ruthie) were two of the seven bridesmaids. The Camden sisters all look so grown up! Congrats to the happy couple! Here are the very first pictures of Justin Timberlake at former 7th Heaven star Beverley Mitchell and Michael Cameron’s wedding in Ravello, Italy from earlier (October 1). His girlfriend Jessica Biel was one of Beverley’s bridesmaids.
