A new data analysis software system in Connecticut searches online job listings in order to help colleges identify the skills students need to find jobs in todayâ??s market. The project uses a web crawler that scours online listings in the financial services and insurance industries, then sends that information to specialized software built specifically for this effort. Ultimately, the data collected is sent to colleges to help them develop relevant curriculum for their job-seeking students. The state of Connecticut used part of a $2.7 million US Department of Labor training grant to develop what is seen as a model project for other states. The state called upon Skillproof, a Bridgeport, CT based labor research organization, for its web crawling technology with data analytics software designed by IBM, Pace University of New York.. Already, the project has proven to be worthwhile. The data collected by the software showed that there were a large number of unfilled openings for high-paying insurance actuarial jobs. When looking for actuaries, employers look primarily for analytic and communication skills. With this information in hand, Connecticut schools were able to respond immediately by expanding their curriculum to teach the specific skills associated with actuarial work. Developers of this software system hope that the success in Connecticut will encourage other states to utilize the system and fill niches in all industries by identifying the skills students need to find high-paying jobs in todayâ??s market.

http://youtube.com/?v=qhLUxrPqsug

Mike Huckabee Speech Manchester, IA TRANSCRIPT: MIKE HUCKABEE: [to college student] First of all, if we dont do anything about Social Security, there wont be enough for you so I hope you have another plan. You need a Plan B. We can take care of the people who are getting into the system right now but theres going to come a point where the younger people paying in, it wont work. And there are several key factors; and the first one is when the Social Security system was developed it was developed based on actuarial tables that said that you would retire at 65 but the life expectancy is 67 years old, so the actuarial tables said you retire at 65 at 67 you would die so we have about a two year obligation, you would pay in for 40 years, we would pay you back for two . . . people started living longer you know and just messed up the whole thing . . . so it looks like the only other option is that we have to, sort of, make the system realistic. And heres the secondary problem: right now, we have fewer and fewer people in America who actually earn their money by wages and the current Social Security system is funded by wages, not just by the overall economy, second thing is we have more people getting into the system . . . baby boomers are retiring at the rate of 10,000 a day . . . wait until all those aging hippies find out they can get free drugs when they retire . . . this is not a Republican or a Democrat problem . . . and several things that will start fixing it. One, change the way we fund it . . . itll be funded out of the general fund . . . another thing is to come up with creative ways so that those of us who are getting near the Social Security age have some options. Let me give you an example: many of us have probably made plans that say that we know that Social Security is not going to be enough to completely sustain us so we have pensions, retirement plans, 401(k) . . . we may not need the monthly check from Social Security to get by but nobodys going to just s

http://youtube.com/?v=LpF9NT5Zx-4

This video is based around an article written by Sam Harris for the LA Times. The words are his, the illustrations mine. FULL TEXT: "So let us ask the question that should be on the mind of every thinking person in the world at this moment: If John McCain becomes the 44th president of the United States, what are the odds that a blood clot or falling object will make Sarah Palin the 45th? The actuarial tables on the Social Security Administration website suggest that there is a better than 10% chance that McCain will die during his first term in office. Needless to say, the Reapers scything only grows more insistent thereafter. Should President McCain survive his first term and get elected to a second, there is a 27% chance that Palin will become the first female U.S. president by 2015. If we take into account McCains medical history and the pressures of the presidency, the odds probably increase considerably that this bright-eyed Alaskan will become the most powerful woman in history. As many people have noted, placing Palin on the ticket has made these final months of the already overlong 2008 campaign much more interesting. Is Palin remotely qualified to be president of the United States? No. But thats precisely what is so interesting. McCain not only has thrown all sensible concerns about good governance aside merely to pander to a sliver of female and masses of conservative Christian voters, he has turned this period of American history into an episode of high-stakes reality television: Dont look now, but our cousin Sarah just became leader of the free world! Tune in next week and watch her get sassy with Pakistan! Americans have an unhealthy desire to see average people promoted to positions of great authority. No one wants an average neurosurgeon or even an average carpenter, but when it comes time to vest a man or woman with more power and responsibility than any person has held in human history, Americans say they want a regular guy, someone just like themse

Actuarial Statistics (life mortality)show that John McCain has a 1 in 3 chance (33%) of dieing before age 80. Sarah Palin has a 2 in 3 chance (66%) of becoming the first woman to become President of the United States if McCain dies while in office. The implication is that she should be evaluated as a potential President - and not Vice-President - given McCain's advanced age and known health problems. John McCain's age and health history force American voters to ask the question: would you vote for Sarah Palin to be President? John McCain can not guarantee anyone he will live for another 8 years.
John McCain may have chosen a woman as his running mate, but don't let her gender fool you into thinking she'll bring anything different to the ticket or the Republican party. Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow discuss exactly who Sarah Palin is and what she stands for. ----------------------- So let us ask the question that should be on the mind of every thinking person in the world at this moment: If John McCain becomes the 44th president of the United States, what are the odds that a blood clot or falling object will make Sarah Palin the 45th? The actuarial tables on the Social Security Administration website suggest that there is a better than 10% chance that McCain will die during his first term in office. Needless to say, the Reaper's scything only grows more insistent thereafter. Should President McCain survive his first term and get elected to a second, there is a 27% chance that Palin will become the first female U.S. president by 2015. McCain not only has thrown all sensible concerns about good governance aside merely to pander to a sliver of female and masses of conservative Christian voters, he has turned this period of American history into an episode of high-stakes reality television: Don't look now, but our cousin Sarah just became leader of the free world! Tune in next week and watch her get sassy with Pakistan! Americans have an unhealthy desire to see average people promoted to positions of great authority. No one wants an average neurosurgeon or even an average carpenter, but when it comes time
