Bill Cosby, who has written a book on fatherhood, is outspoken when it comes to parenting and families without fathers.

Jefferson Reed is a mild mannered school teacher in Washington D.C.. His neighborhood is terrorized by a local gang called the Golden Lords. One night, Jeff steps in to rescue a woman from the gang, only to end up running from them himself. Hiding in a garbage dumpster, he manages to escape, and as he climbs out of it, he is struck down by a glowing green meteorite which crashes down from the sky. His spine is crushed and he receives severe burns. A small fragment of the meteor was left over and was taken by a silent vagrant (Bill Cosby). He awakens several days later in the hospital, but when his bandages are taken off, he is miraculously healed from all his injuries.©1993 mgm

It marked Cosby's first solo foray in television, after his co-starring role in I Spy. The series also marked the first time an African American starred in his or her own eponymous series.

In 1979, the Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids show was re-titled The New Fat Albert Show and featured a new segment titled The Brown Hornet, which was was a show that Fat Albert's gang watched on a barely-working television in their clubhouse from 1979 to approximately 1984. The Brown Hornet himself was a bumbling superhero in outer space whose design resembled a caricature of Bill Cosby, who also performed vocal talents on the character. The way he talked seemed cut off in the middle of his sentences. Some think this is the point where the show jumped the shark.
