Humphrey Bogart plays a psychotic killer who disposes of his wives through slow ingestion of poison in The Two Mrs. Carrolls, made in 1945 but shelved for two years because of its similarity to Gaslight. Bogart is Geoffrey Carroll, an artist who paints a portrait of his wife as "The Angel of Death" and then meets Sally Morton (Barbara Stanwyck), with whom he quickly falls in love. In order to get rid of his wife and take up with Sally, Geoffrey slowly poisons his spouse by lacing her nightly glass of warm milk with liberal doses of toxic chemicals. He sends his daughter Beatrice (Ann Carter) away to school and, while the daughter is away, his wife dies. He immediately marries Sally and they appear to be happily together. But a few years pass and Geoffrey begins to work on another "Angel of Death" portrait of Sally, this time after he falls in love with his attractive neighbor Cecily (Alexis Smith). As before, Sally begins to grow weak from the daily nightcap of tainted milk. "Hoochie Coochie Man" (sometimes referred to as "(I'm Your) Hoochie Coochie Man") is a 1954 song (see 1954 in music) written by Willie Dixon and first performed by Muddy Waters. Waters' rendition of the song was featured on the Rolling Stone magazine's list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, as it was voted number 225 by representatives of the music industry and press. he hoochie coochie was a sexually provocative dance that became wildly popular during and after the Chicago World's Fair in 1893.[1] Described by the New York Journal in 1893 as "Neither dancing of the head nor the feet"[2], it was a belly dance performed by women of (or presented as having) an Eastern European gypsy heritage, often as part of travelling 'side shows'. Cooch, coochie or cootchie was apparently already a Southern US term for a woman's private parts, and hoochie coochie has been suggested as referring directly to sex. The dance was still popular at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition: the World's Fair of 1904 but had all but disappeared by the Second World War, and so the Muddy Waters song was harking back to an earlier 'golden' era. Since the dance was performed by women, a hoochie coochie man either watched them or ran the show. Alternatively, from the directly sexual meaning of hoochie coochie, he was successful with women.
