Spazio 1999 (titolo originale: Space: 1999) è una serie televisiva britannica di fantascienza ideata nel 1973 dalla coppia Gerry e Sylvia Anderson. I due produssero anche la prima stagione di episodi, dopodiché il sodalizio professionale si sciolse (per sopraggiunto divorzio) e la seconda stagione fu prodotta da Gerry Anderson e Fred Freiberger. La prima stagione fu realizzata tra la fine del 1973 e l'inizio del 1975. Alla produzione parteciparono la britannica ITC e l'italiana RAI; la seconda fu realizzata nel 1976 e partecipò la sola ITC.Spazio 1999 fu l'ultima produzione della coppia inglese, che già vantava al suo attivo numerosi successi televisivi quali Thunderbirds, UFO, Stingray, Captain Scarlet, Fireball XL5 e Joe 90.Furono realizzati 24 episodi per stagione, per un totale di 48.Spazio 1999 fu trasmesso in Gran Bretagna e negli USA a partire dal 1975, (ma il primo episodio era stato realizzato come pilota nel 1973). In entrambi i casi non furono network ma syndication a trasmettere la serie, ragion per cui non fu mai trasmessa in contemporanea sui rispettivi interi territori nazionali. In Italia e nel resto d'Europa la serie arrivò nel 1976.Spazio 1999 nacque dal progetto abortito - nel 1970 - di una seconda stagione della serie UFO. Gerry Anderson aveva in mente un sequel di detta serie, in cui il comandante Straker sarebbe riuscito a realizzare una base lunare della SHADO ben più grande di quella operativa nel 1980. La serie avrebbe dovuto chiamarsi UFO: 1999 ma non trovò mai il favore di chi avrebbe dovuto finanziarla, per cui il progetto venne prima accantonato e in seguito ripreso e trasformato drasticamente.Il 9 settembre 1999 il comandante John Koenig prende il comando della base lunare Alpha, un'installazione creata per scopi di ricerca scientifica nello spazio. È avvertito del fatto che vi sono scorie nucleari instabili nella faccia opposta della Luna, quella nascosta alla Terra. Ma non fa in tempo a intervenire: il 13 settembre le scorie provocher

How to forget the episode of season II "The Black Sun". I think It was the best scifi telefilm never seen on TV screen.
